The Boxer
The thrill
The lights
The nerves and the butterflies,
The determination in his eyes,
Tension on high
Before the mighty titans collide-bodies fill with visions of glory
And feelings of pride,
Who will survive?
Face to face with victory and defeat
No fear, no regrets, no retreat
As gloves touch-in slow motion-gloves touch,
Before that bell ring, deep breath-eyes close, Thoughts race like…
I AM HOME,- DEEP BREATH-, STAY CALM,- THIS IS MY SANCTUARY-THIS IS MY RING
MY PASSION- DEEP BREATH- MY HOME
THIS… IS MY SANCTUARY,
-Now it all comes down to my heart and preparation,- adapt, stick and move, be precise, limit the hesitation and absolutely no
swings out of desperation,
The hours of video study-the training
Running, sunshine or raining
No pain, no gain
Pounding the heavy bag…left, right, bob, weave, step –
Hitting that heavy bag,
Sparring sessions, speed bag, jump ropes, push-ups and weights
Unyielding, punishing drive
With the anticipation to put my skills on display—I can’t wait
Until, I can feel success around my waist.
-Since childhood I’ve wanted to emulate the greats,
Sweet like Sugar with stone hands and an Iron chin
Floating like a butterfly, and stinging like a Marvelous, Pretty boy, Hit man-but
Too Many names to name, but all greats,
Dancing round that squared coliseum with such grace,
Gloves laced-no feeling is greater—in life, in here I AM A GLADIATOR
To hit or be hit is not a question
I conquer all, through legal combos of aggression
-It’s the ancient conflict of Man vs. Man vs. Himself
Overcoming the obstacles, the losses, the knockdowns, and rain
But not here, here I will endure
Not in my sanctuary- this is my home
This is where I make my stand – it’s the only real place I’ve ever belonged,
In the heat of battle I am a raging beast…at peace
The ambiance,
The blood, sweat, tears, and more sweat
The ring walk
The bright lights
And chanting fans,
Make it all worth it in the end,
When the announcer says my name and,
The ref raises my hand….As lone victor
They all watch, but most will never comprehend
That this is my reason for being
They will never understand our sacrifice— to become LEGENDARY
I pay the ultimate price
We are all fighters in some manner or another
Against hardship and strife,
But the ring is my Sanctuary…I AM A BOXER
AND THIS IS MY LIFE….
