Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Prediction
Tonight on HBO PPV, we have a much anticipated fight between the undefeated WBC Middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, and the very skilled Sergio Martinez. As a lot of people get ready to watch this match, all I keep hearing is who wins? That’s not an easy question to answer, but it is!
Chavez Jr is undefeated with a record of 46 wins, with 32 by way of KO, with no losses, and one draw. Even though he has a record that many fighters would kill to have, Chavez has been scrutinized for his opponents skill level. These allegations are similar to that of Lucian Bute (stepped up and was knocked out by Carl Froch), and Andre Berto (Lost a war to Victor Ortiz). There are other fighters that have lost their zero losses and/or are looked at as being pampered, but these stick out in my head.
I know your argument: “That doesn’t mean anything because he (Chavez Jr) has gotten better, and there are other fighters out there that have faced this type of situation and won!” and you are absolutely correct.
Sergio Martinez has arguably been 1 of the top fighters over the past 2 or 3 years defeating good-great fighters like: Paul Williams, Kelly Pavlik, and Serhiy Dzinziruk, to name a few. No real boxing fan looks at him as a push over, and even the people that predict Chavez will win, says that it will be a tough fight.
Before I pick who I think will win, I look at their fighting styles, their will to win, their resume, and other aspects that could help/hurt a fighter (Outside ailments, Change in trainer, weaknesses made apparent in other fights, etc).
I’m obviously going with Martinez, and the reason is simple: Chavez fights going forward and Martinez can fight in either direction, which means he can be the attacker or he can pick attackers off on their way in, which I believe is going to happen tonight.
Now Chavez Jr could affectively cut off the ring and turn it into an inside brawl and systematically break Martinez down with body work, but I have never seen him do that against a fighter like Martinez, so I will only go off what I have seen. Martinez does not have a problem with a body puncher or someone that wants to crowd his space.
