EXPOSED

Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier

Shawn Porter lost to Kell Brooks in a fight that was competitive and has now been deemed as EXPOSED!
Now, what exactly does exposed mean? It means that the said fighter that has been exposed had another fighter give the blueprint on how to beat them, for the most part. So, what I’m having a hard time understanding is, where is the line between a person being defeated and being exposed?

There are cases where a fighter that has been giving an incredible hype job finally runs into real competition and is dominated thoroughly; in that case I understand the exposed label that is thrown on the fight. When you have a fighter that has been fighting top level competition and loses, how does that translate into being exposed? I’m hearing that Floyd Mayweather was exposed by Marcos Maidana…. WHAT? How can a fighter that was defeated have exposed the winner? It was said that Oscar De La Hoya exposed Floyd and had the blueprint too, but he is still undefeated years later!

Some other fighters that were deemed EXPOSED:

Muhammad Ali when he lost to Joe Frazier

Wladamir Klitschko when he was knocked out by Corrie Sanders (R.I.P.)

Vitali Klitschko when he was stopped by Chris Byrd

George Foreman when he lost to Ali

That is just a few, but you see my point… All these fighters went on to defeat top level competition, one is arguably the greatest of all time, and one is the current reigning heavyweight champ. I’m not saying Porter was or wasn’t exposed, but I know no one knows for sure after one loss.

I think as boxing fans we tend to overly use labels that has no clear meaning and when you add that with the bandwagons that quickly form and evaporates just as quick, you have controlled chaos that lasts for about 3 to 4 days…. That’s from Saturday to Tuesday or Wednesday…. Yup… The attention span of a boxing fan is not long at all!

In closing, here are some of the fighters that I believe may have been exposed:

Prince Naseem Hamed when he lost to Marco Antonio Barrera; retired after 1 more fight

Fernando Vargas when he lost to Felix Trinidad: He was never the same

Oscar De La Hoya when he lost to Felix Trinidad: He lost every big fight after that!
