Spence vs Crawford, who wins?
We are only 3 days away from one of the most anticipated, and significant fights over the last 20 years; Errol Spence Jr vs Terrence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight crown. Both fighters are undefeated and pretty much in their primes, which we don’t get to see that often. It has an old-school feel, like a modern-day Hagler vs Hearns or Leonard vs Duran. Whether the fight lives up to the hype has yet to be seen, but on paper, this is one of the best, if not the best, fight that fight fans can hope for.
This is pretty much a 50/50 fight if you analyze their styles and fortitude, but who holds the edge?
Most people are riding with whoever they liked more before this fight was announced because it’s hard to pick the winner between these two juggernauts. I took a pragmatic view into this fight and played different scenarios in my head and came up with one winner that I believe will edge the other fighter out.
Unlike others, I don’t believe either fighter will get knocked out, not because neither is capable, they are both too resilient and tactical to succumb to the punishment their opponents have faced, and it’ll take more than one punch. Is it possible? Of course, but it’s not likely in my opinion, they both are ring generals and know how to think on their feet, so when the going gets tough, they are both more than capable of adjusting.
I see this fight being a chess match early on with a lot of feeling out rounds, which will be hard to score; neither fighter will land anything of significance in the first three rounds. In the mid rounds, the winner will slowly start to emerge by controlling the pace of the fight and will slowly push their will on the other. Some good shots will be landed and the crowd will be on the edge of their seats as the contest heads into the back half of the fight.
During the final phase, there will be one fighter feeling a little concerned with thoughts of taking their first loss and will teeter on the line of panic mode, with silent alarms going off, even though his corner will be comforting; if there is going to be a knock out, this is the most feasible time it will happen; because this will be an all or nothing area and the fighter with doubt will take chances at landing something big.
Once the fight is over and it goes to the scorecards, it will be by split decision for the new undisputed welterweight champ of the world: Errol Spence Jr.
I see him weathering the storm early and adjusting to the stance switching Crawford who will never get comfortable in either stance, orthodox or southpaw.
This fight has rematch written all over it, but no matter who wins, this should be a fight that compliments the already stellar year of boxing we’ve had thus far, and I for one, can’t wait to hear that first bell ring!
