Devin Haney vs Vasyl Lomachenko Prediction
Tomorrow night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney will face the slick boxer Vasyl Lomachenko for all his titles. I’m expecting this to be a tactical chess-like fight, even though both fighters are promising fireworks.
Haney has the height, reach, and the age advantage over Loma, but it’s hard to count the Ukrainian out with his high level of ring generalship and boxing IQ; he’s been faced with adversity before but weathered the storm more times than not.
Looking at this fight on paper and from their previous fights, this is how I see it all unfolding.
The first round will have both fighters feeling each other out, like many other fights, and both trying to gauge speed and distance. Haney is an orthodox fighter and Loma is a southpaw, so fighting for foot placement will be prevalent early on.
Round two will see more of the same with the heat revving up and more combos being thrown, but it will remain a mind game with faints and movement from both fighters.
After round three being more of the same, I think it’ll be safe to say that we will see the same level of action through the rest of the fight with Haney landing more definitive shots and utilizing his jab to keep Loma at bay and honest.
My prediction is this fight goes to the scorecards and Haney will have successfully defended his titles with a unanimous decision in a very mediocre fight.
I’m hopeful for the promised fireworks and the theatrics but I don’t think Haney will allow that type of fight by staying behind his jab and his 1-2’s that will dominate the night. Whenever Loma tries to engage, he will be met with quick shots that makes him think twice.
Lets hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it! As lackluster as this prediction is, this is the same excitement we’re going to see during the fight, unfortunately.
