Lamont Peterson fails drug test
Dan Rafael of ESPN reports:
Unified junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson, due to face Amir Khan in a much anticipated rematch on May 19 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, has tested positive for a banned substance, putting the fight in jeopardy.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Peterson tested positive for synthetic testosterone following a random test in March. It is unclear why the result is just coming to light.
I just read a couple of days ago that Lamont Peterson said that he was all for Olympic style drug testing, so this comes as a bit of a shock that he would fail a drug test. This was shaping up to be the best 3 consecutive months of boxing in a long time and the fight between Amir Khan and Peterson was one of the highly anticipated ones. If this fight is canceled, it would be a great disservice to boxing fans everywhere, but the nature of the situation makes it understandable.
