Spence vs Crawford, WTF JUST HAPPENED?
On July 29th, so 2 Saturdays ago, the world witnessed Terence “Bud” Crawford dismantle Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr in what was being viewed as one of the most significant fights of the last 20 or so years, and I’m still shocked about it! What did Crawford do to turn, what was dubbed as a 50/50 fight, into an end of the movie beating, where the action hero finally catches the villain?
“I got a feel for his power probably like the first or second round, he’s a strong dude.”Errol Spence Jr
There are a lot of excuses being thrown around for the reason Spence looked so bad, but I’m not going to entertain any of them in this article; not because I feel I’m above them or they are totally ludicrous, but because I personally don’t want to diminish what Crawford was able to do. Spence wasn’t 100% once he came back from his out of the ring injuries, and he still prevailed!
Crawford came into this fight accurate and determined, as he always does, so this was nothing new for him, but it sure shocked the hell out of all of us and most definitely Spence. Even the people who bet money on Spence to lose by knockout never thought it would be this type of atmosphere in the ring; Crawford was the big dog and Spence looked like the little brother that continued to mess with the big brother when mom was around, not realizing, mom had to be at work that night!
“Everybody at the top level has some type of power but I think because my timing was off, he was catching me in between shots.”Errol Spence Jr
I take my hat off to both fighters, as I always do, for the sheer fact and magnitude of what they’re putting their body through, just to entertain people who couldn’t care less about their well-being.
“I predicted Spence would win by decision, and went on to say that I don’t think either fighter would knock the other one out because they both were too resilient… BOY WAS I WRONG!!”MY DUMBASS, SMH
I wrote an article, with a prediction, before this fight and felt good about it; I was anticipating having another notch on my prediction record. I predicted Spence would win by decision, and went on to say that I don’t think either fighter would knock the other one out because they both were too resilient… BOY WAS I WRONG!! I couldn’t have been more wronger (don’t focus on the word, it works!).
At the end of the day, we the fans got an entertaining situation, the fight build-up and the fight itself, and that’s all we can ask for. There are talks about having a rematch at 154, and having it before the end of the year, which hasn’t been confirmed, but if it happens, I’ll be watching that one as well, and I’m hoping Spence wins, because then we could have another great trilogy on our hands, which will be good for the sport.
If they do have the rematch, at whatever weight, and Crawford treats Spence like he did in the first fight, I’m going to encourage Spence to press charges!!!
