Who wins between Bute and Froch Saturday?
IBF super middleweight Lucian Bute will put his belt on the line against Carl Froch this Saturday at Capital FM Arena in the UK. Who wins this fight and why? When it comes to predicting boxing matches it can be tricky because the nature of the sport makes a lot of fighters different on fight night and there are a lot of variables that come with it.
The fact is, It’s not a 7 game series, or you and 10 other people on the field to help get the win. It’s your skills and attributes against theirs, and you both know that if you lose, you feel as if all the weeks of training were for nothing. You also know that in the event of a lost, there is a slim chance you can get a rematch to try and get revenge, so you just have to suck it up and find your next opponent. All those weeks of training feel like they were for nothing, and your mind gets riddled with second guessing your abilities and/or you look at the fight and say “If I had only did this!” It’s an excruciating feeling that sticks with you for a long time, and sometimes forever.
Lucian Bute has not felt this feeling of defeat, as he sports his undefeated record of 30-0 with 24 of his wins coming by the way of knockout. He has also not technically been in the ring with the toughest opponents, so he hasn’t really been tested. I do not know if Carl is the one to test him, but it is not uncommon for an undefeated fighter to not expect an increase in challenge and get caught in the deep end wondering “How did I get here?” I do not question Bute’s heart or dedication to the sport, but how many people will train for a 3 mile run the same way they train for a marathon? Boxing is so unpredictable sometimes where it is not always evident as to how far you might have to go to get the win.
Carl Froch on the other hand has tasted defeat twice to the hands of Mikkel Kessler and the second one in his last fight against Andre Ward. He knows how it feels to stand in the ring after a fight while the ref is holding his opponents hand up. He also has a better resume with wins over Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, and Arthur Abraham. Carl has a warriors heart and the will to win, which is fortunate for him because he will need it on Saturday if he’s to win this fight.
Bute seems to have the better skill set, but Carl’s angle punching is as awkward as they come, so I believe this fight will be a war as long as it lasts. You also have to remember Lucian Bute vs Librado Andrade 1, where Bute received a little home cooking in Canada where Bute should have received his first loss by KO. I think Bute can out box Froch all day, but if he turns it into a dog fight, I think Carl will gain an advantage.
So who wins? This is a hard fight to predict, but I will go out on a limb and say that it will be Bute winning a split decision. I think he will use his speed and boxing skills early on winning rounds easily, and by the time Froch turns the heat up, it will be too late. This should be a good fight either way, and I would not be shocked if Carl wins……..even if it’s via a shady scorecard, unfortunately!
