Are boxing fans getting younger?
My knowledge of boxing comes from years of watching fights, researching fight outcomes, and being in boxing gyms training, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I find myself talking about it quite frequently. I usually come here to get my voice heard, but I also enjoy debating other boxing fans in person and online in different forums, and I have noticed the increase in grade school tactics, and it’s troubling.
When did we start feeling that we had to call boxers names to display our disapproval? I must have missed this meeting, or simply did not get the memo, because I don’t see how this is affective or entertaining. I have read/heard everything from Floyd gayweather to Manny Pacfraud, just to name 2, and it’s not necessary. I know this is not a new thing, but it seems to be spreading like a virus.
My first thought was: These are younger boxing fans that are reacting to something they don’t like, how they’re used to reacting. I would have been fine with this, but then I talked to some adults that used these same types of antics……………
I’m finding myself discontinuing healthy debates because someone either decides they need to bash a boxer by calling them names or someone becomes part of the discussion and floods it with stupidity.
I have learned that some people will realize they are losing a debate/argument and will decide to take a more juvenile approach, but they really need to know that this makes them look more shameful than losing. When people start off with the name calling, I usually don’t even respond to the post and continue to look for a person that shows facts and professionalism, but it’s getting harder to find.
The best way to have a debate, in my opinion, is to give your opinion and have facts to add to it to show why you feel the way you do. If you don’t like Mayweather because you feel as if he avoids (Ducks) fighters, that’s alright for you to say, but calling him Duckweather makes you look childish and silly. Instead, you could list the fighters you feel he ducked, a link to a video or article that helps your point, and mention why he should have fought them.
I said all that to say, Grow up!
