New Year but same ole bad decisions

recount2

In boxing, there is a thin line between bad decisions and precise round scoring, which is why it seems to have a lot of people screaming murder after fights. I have been on the side of the fan base that has called decisions distasteful, but I have also been on the side where I thought fans were being over dramatic during fights that were so close they could have went either way.

Bad decisions are a problem, but what I think is even worse is no one truly knows how a judge will score a fight. If the boxer and his corner don’t know what wins a round for the judges, how do they prepare, other than preparing to go for the KO? Is it fair to go into a fight with a game plan to hit your opponent more than he hits you, only to find out at the end that the judges would give the rounds to whoever threw the most punches, no matter if they landed?!? If you find out that whoever was walking forward the most during the fight would receive an advantage…at the end of the fight, would you not feel cheated?

I think the fact that there are no set rules that regulate round scoring makes it easy for the fan favorite to get the nod, corruption to alter cards with no repercussions, and scoring that seems as if the judge was watching a totally different fight. Until we get people that will hold these judges accountable for scoring a round wrong, whatever that means to you, we will continue having this problem.

I believe we need judges to judge the judges and question them on their decisions. I have said before that each judge should come with a bio on what they look for in a round. This would give everyone somewhat of an idea of what to expect, and in the end, it would be easy to understand why they scored the way they did or you could spot the corruption.

This is definitely a problem, and there will not be an immediate resolution, but they should at least acknowledge that there is a problem and state they are going to make moves to try and improve it. But this is boxing, and as long as we continue to have short memories, there is no real rush for anything to change…Unfortunately….New Year but same ole bad decisions
