Former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion “The Magic Man” Antonio Tarver (30W-6L-21KO’s) is set to face former cruiserweight champ Jonathan Banks (29W-2L-19KO’s) tonight in a heavyweight non-title fight at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.

If this fight was made 5 to 7 years ago it would have had potential of being anticipated, but that’s not the case today. Neither man has fought since 2013, Banks is coming off a rematch lost to, mediocre at best, Seth Mitchell, and problems outside the ring has been ailing Tarver for a while now, not to mention he’s freaking 46!

That being said, I’ll be watching tonight for sure. You’re probably wondering why… Well, my logic behind watching is 1)

I’m a fan of the SPORT of boxing more so than of a BOXER, so I can enjoy watching no name fighters and even a strategic fan ugly chess match between 2 pure counterpunchers, yeah I know, a snooze fest right? And 2) They both are rusty and are borderline meaningless to the sport, and THEY BOTH KNOW IT! This can spark determination in both to try and reignite a little spark with a win, and they both will try and do it fast before their opponent gets settled.

I know it’s a gamble, because Tarver could shell up and use his defense to stop Banks offense and not unleash any of his own, which will make for a Hassim Rahman vs John Ruiz type of catastrophe, if you haven’t seen that fight, consider yourself lucky!

I’m an optimistic person and will tune in, but my optimism only lasts so long, so if you follow me on twitter (@Glove2Face, which you all should be by now!) and you noticed that I stopped commenting and giving updates on the rounds…. I ran out of optimism!

The fight airs tonight on ESPN2… Try to enjoy the fights!
