Tricked Into Being A Fan

Boxing match advertisements have been around forever. They’ve gotten better and better every year. I am not known to get caught up in advertisements and all the hoopla that is thrown at us before fights, but every now and again, I get tricked into being a fan. I usually look at the fighters, then mentally pick the different styles apart and can tell if it should be a good fight or not. But, there’s really no definite way to tell if a fight is going to be good.

These promoters have honed their skills to make a fight look like it’s going to be the fight of the year and I sometimes get caught up in the hype. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I kick myself because I should know better. I am a very optimistic person, so I always hope for good things or good fights. If I am hoping hard enough, I am more susceptible to get drawn in.

The last fight I got pulled into was Manny Pacquio vs Joshua Clottey, 03/13/2010. I wanted to believe that Clottey was going to put up a tough fight, and it was probably because of how easily he handled Zab Judah. I did not think he would win, but I thought this was worth buying and I was completely wrong. I was tricked… again!

We all must remember that advertisements are going to make it seem like the fight is going to be better than Ward vs Gatti. So, we need to stay realistic and see it for what it is. Because, if we don’t, we run the risk of paying to see a horrible fight like… Roy Jones, Jr. vs Bernard Hopkins 2. Be Careful!
