Saul “Canelo” Alvarez still without an opponent
It seems that the September 15th fight date will be dominated by Martinez vs Chavez Jr PPV fight because all the opponents that are big enough to fight Alvarez on PPV are not available. The 2 fighters that could make a big enough fight are Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto, but Floyd’s in jail and Cotto doesn’t seem to want to get in the ring so soon after his hard fought loss to Floyd.
Dan Rafael reported that the fight has been dropped from PPV and will likely be shown on regular Showtime and the opponent is still being searched for. He did mention Austin Trout as a potential opponent, but that deal is still far from being completed. It looks like we will see a substitute fight for now and hopefully we will get the chance at seeing a great fight from Alvarez his next time out if they can’t find a worthy opponent this time.More info.
