Amir Khan lost for a reason

I tweeted that I think Danny Garcia could win, so I’m not shocked at the outcome the slightest bit. We all know that Amir Khan can be speed hungry and undisciplined in spots, so all it takes is patience of his opponent to find that spot. He has always had flaws, which he knows, which is why he’s talking about leaving Freddie Roach if he feels Roach cannot help him get better in the skills he needs to improve.Read more about it here.

If you look at the Marcos Maidana fight, Amir was winning with his speed and foot movement but Marcos never stopped…..He never quit with his relentlessness because he is one of those warriors that believes, as long as he’s still on his feet, he has a chance of winning. Indeed he did! He caught Khan with some good shots late in the fight that him on wobbly legs and on the verge of a KO loss. He was taking so much punishment at that time that Roach admitted after the fight that he was about to throw the towel in. Amir Khan ultimately won the fight, but there was a spotlight put on his flaws once again, like it was done when he lost his first fight to Breidis Prescott.

Before the Garcia fight, Amir lost to Lamont Peterson. No matter how controversial the Peterson fight was, Amir showed many flaws. Peterson, like Garcia, started timing Khan’s punches and landing his own. This says to me that Khan’s speed is one of his only attributes and he has a robotic like offense. Although I believe he does punch from angles, but are they the same angles every time?

I think Khan is a good fighter, but until his flaws are strengthened, he will continue to fight his way close to the top and then get knocked down again.

Good thing is “he’s only 25” but the bad thing is “he has 3 losses at 25” in a boxing society that pampers their rising stars, usually too much. He’s 26-3 and was knocked out in 2 of 3 the three losses and if Peterson had a little bit more power, he would have been knocked out then too.

I hope the best for Amir Khan and his future endeavors but from where I’m sitting, he will be just a good fighter with speed that was good enough to beat some fighters but not enough to be great.
